NY-26: Congressman-Elect Chris Lee Thanks Supporters

by on November 6, 2008

Got this email today from Chris Lee to his supporters:

Dear Friend,

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done to support this campaign. Whether it was putting up a lawn sign, going door-to-door, participating in phone banks, coming out to our rallies, or investing in the campaign – your grassroots efforts made all the difference.

During this campaign, we traveled through all the seven counties – we’ve been to farms, factories, schools, gas stations, and hospitals – we’ve talked to seniors, veterans, small business owners, police, firefighters, and first responders.   Thank you to all those who were kind enough to open their homes, neighborhoods, and businesses to our campaign.

I’m prepared to work with anyone who is committed to getting our economy back on track, Democrats, Republicans, or otherwise. We are going to make government more accountable to the people of Western New York.

This is a victory worth celebrating – but we certainly have our work cut out for us, and I will need your help in the months ahead.

Again, please accept my heartfelt gratitude for your support.

Dear Friends,

I want to take a moment to thank you for your support of my candidacy. Although we were not victorious, I am so proud of the campaign we ran.

It’s hard to believe we’ve come so far together. It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was sitting with my family at the kitchen table, thinking about the direction this country was moving and said to myself, “Alice: talk is cheap. If you don’t like the way things are going, it’s time to get out there and do something about it.”

And we did. We may not have won this election, but I think we have created something special here in the 26th District. We engaged voters in a real discussion of the issues. We ran a campaign of which we can be proud. That is no small accomplishment.

Last night’s historic election of Barak [sic] Obama has shown us that people are hungry for change; that politics is about more than just money, about more than Democrat vs. Republican. It’s about making a better life, building a stronger community, and ensuring a safer, more prosperous world.

Here in Western New York, there was a chorus of voices for change as well, and I am hopeful that my opponent heard those voices. I wish him well in the task ahead.

I am so grateful to all of you who have contributed to the campaign in so many ways—to all of you across the district, the State of New York and the country who have stood with us through this journey.

Thank you for your support. Keep working. Keep fighting. Keep alive the spirit that brought you to this effort and you will help change Western New York, our nation, and even the world.
